Terms of Use & End User License Agreement
Please read these Terms carefully. They are a binding agreement between you and Mahtca Global S.R.L. covering your use of B64 — Base64 Image Converter.
1. Overview
These Terms of Use and End User License Agreement (the “Terms”) govern your use of B64 — Base64 Image Converter (the “App”), a macOS application published by Mahtca Global S.R.L. (the “Developer”, “we”, “us”) and distributed through Apple's Mac App Store.
The App converts images and PDF documents into Base64 text, converts Base64 text back into images and documents, and performs those conversions across whole folders. All processing happens locally on your Mac.
The Privacy Policy and the Acceptable Use Policy are incorporated into these Terms by reference.
2. Acceptance, withdrawal and termination
By downloading, installing or using the App you accept these Terms. If you do not accept them, do not use the App and remove it from your Mac.
You may stop using the App at any time by deleting it. We may terminate this licence if you materially breach these Terms or the Acceptable Use Policy. Sections that by their nature should survive termination do so.
Refunds for App Store purchases are handled by Apple under Apple's policies. We cannot issue refunds ourselves.
3. Age requirement
You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age of digital consent where you live, whichever is higher, to use the App. If you are under the age of majority, you may use it only with the involvement of a parent or guardian who accepts these Terms.
4. Licence to use the App
Subject to these Terms, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App on Apple-branded devices that you own or control, as permitted by the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.
You may not rent, lease, lend, sell, redistribute or sublicense the App; reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble it except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits; or remove, obscure or alter any proprietary notices.
5. What is free and what is paid
Decoding is free, permanently. Turning Base64 back into an image or a document, previewing it, copying it and saving it require no purchase, no account and no trial.Encoding and Batch conversion are unlocked by a one-time in-app purchase. There is no subscription and no recurring charge. The unlock is associated with your Apple Account, so it is available across reinstalls and on the Macs associated with that account, subject to Apple's rules.Customers who purchased the earlier paid version of B64 are entitled to the unlocked features without an additional purchase.
6. Permitted use and your responsibility
You are responsible for the files you convert and for having the right to convert them. You must not use the App to process material you are not entitled to possess, copy or distribute, or in any way that breaches the Acceptable Use Policy.
Base64 is an encoding, not encryption. It provides no confidentiality whatsoever: anyone who obtains an encoded payload can decode it trivially. You must not rely on it to protect anything.
7. No data collection by the Developer
The App does not transmit your files, your preferences or any usage information to us. We operate no servers that receive your content and we have no account system. See the Privacy Policy for the detail.
8. Local processing and device storage
All conversion happens on your Mac using its own processor and memory. Performance therefore depends on your hardware, the size of the files, and where those files are stored. Converting very large files or very large folders consumes proportionate disk space and time.
9. Files, file operations, and the risk inherent in conversion
The App reads files you select and writes files where you tell it to. Batch operations create a new destination folder and write results into it. You are responsible for choosing destinations, for having sufficient free space, and for maintaining backups of anything you care about.
Keep backups. No file-handling software can guarantee against loss arising from hardware failure, power loss, filesystem errors, permission changes or external volumes disconnecting mid-operation.10. Accuracy of conversion
Base64 encoding and decoding as implemented in the App are designed to be lossless and byte-exact: a file that is encoded and then decoded should be byte-for-byte identical to the original. The Inspector's SHA-256 checksums are provided so that you can verify this for yourself, and we encourage you to do so for anything important.
We do not warrant that any particular third-party system will accept, render or interpret a payload produced by the App. Consumers differ in the formats they support, the sizes they accept and the policies they apply.
11. Format detection and reporting
The App reports the format of a file or payload by examining its bytes, and where a data URI declares a type that disagrees with those bytes it reports both and relies on the bytes. These reports are provided for your convenience and are not a guarantee about how any other system will classify the same data.
12. Checksums
SHA-256 checksums and batch checksum manifests are provided as an integrity aid. A checksum demonstrates that bytes are unchanged; it does not demonstrate authorship, provenance or authenticity, and it is not a digital signature. Do not rely on it as one.
13. Purchases, payments and refunds
All purchases are made through Apple. Prices are set in the Mac App Store and shown in your local currency. We never receive or handle your payment details.
Refund requests are made to Apple and are decided by Apple under its policies. Use Restore Purchases in the App if a previous purchase is not recognised.
14. Apple terms and third-party services
Your use of the App is also subject to the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions and the Licensed Application End User License Agreement, to the extent those apply. Where those terms conflict with these Terms on a matter Apple governs, Apple's terms control.
15. Maintenance and support
We are solely responsible for providing any maintenance and support for the App. Apple has no obligation to furnish maintenance or support services. Support requests may be sent to help@mahtca.com.
16. Ownership of your content
Your files remain yours. We claim no right, title or interest in anything you convert, and we never see it.
17. Intellectual property
The App, its name, its icon, its interface and this website are owned by the Developer and protected by intellectual-property law. Nothing in these Terms transfers any ownership to you.
18. Privacy and data roles
See the Privacy Policy. In summary: we collect nothing, so we act as neither controller nor processor of your personal data in your use of the App.
19. Security
The App is sandboxed by macOS and distributed, signed and notarised through the Mac App Store. Because your content never leaves your machine, it is not exposed to interception in transit or to a breach of any service we operate. Securing the Mac itself remains your responsibility.
20. No warranty
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the App is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the App will be uninterrupted or error-free.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so some of these exclusions may not apply to you. You may have statutory rights that these Terms do not affect.
21. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Developer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, nor for any loss of data, profits, revenue, goodwill or business, arising out of or relating to your use of the App, however caused and on any theory of liability.
Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the App shall not exceed the greater of the amount you actually paid for it in the twelve months preceding the claim, or ten euros.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for any other liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
22. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Developer against any claim, demand, loss or expense arising from your use of the App in breach of these Terms or the Acceptable Use Policy, or from material you process in violation of the rights of a third party.
23. Product claims
The Developer, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claims relating to the App, including product liability claims, any claim that the App fails to conform to applicable legal or regulatory requirements, and claims arising under consumer protection or similar legislation.
24. Intellectual property claims
In the event of any third-party claim that the App or your possession and use of it infringes that third party's intellectual property rights, the Developer, not Apple, is solely responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement and discharge of that claim.
25. Apple warranty acknowledgement
In the event of any failure of the App to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the App.
26. Export and legal compliance
You represent that you are not located in a country subject to a relevant government embargo, and that you are not listed on any government list of prohibited or restricted parties. You agree to comply with all applicable export and import laws.
27. Apple as third-party beneficiary
Apple and Apple's subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms and, upon your acceptance, have the right to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.
28. Availability, updates and feature changes
We may update the App, change or remove features, or discontinue it. We will not remove the ability to decode Base64 without charge from a version you have already installed. Updates are distributed through the Mac App Store and may require a newer version of macOS.
29. Events outside our control
We are not liable for any failure or delay in performance caused by events beyond our reasonable control, including acts of God, changes in law, platform policy changes, or the acts or omissions of third parties including Apple.
30. One-time in-app purchase
The unlock is a non-consumable in-app purchase. It does not expire, does not renew, and is not a subscription. Availability across devices depends on Apple's account and family-sharing rules, which we do not control.
31. Assignment
You may not assign or transfer these Terms. We may assign them in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, on notice posted to this website.
32. Modification of terms
We may revise these Terms. The current version is always published here with a version number and effective date. Continued use of the App after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
33. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of Romania, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, and the courts of Romania have exclusive jurisdiction — except that if you are a consumer, you retain the benefit of any mandatory protections and any right to bring proceedings in the courts of your country of residence under the law of that country.
34. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, it shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make it enforceable, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force.
35. Entire agreement
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and the Acceptable Use Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and the Developer regarding the App, and supersede any prior understanding on that subject.
36. Language
The authoritative version of these Terms is the English one. Any translation is provided for convenience only.
37. Final acknowledgement
By using B64 — Base64 Image Converter you acknowledge that you have read these Terms, that you understand them, and that you agree to be bound by them.
